Hi Matthew,
I enjoyed reading your blog when I was trying to determine if anyone in Olympia had been watching Euro 2008 and cheering for Spain. I just found your references to football and beer, wine and Christian faith, and Jane Austen to be interesting–not a combination that comes up much outside my immediate family. I am a grandmother and a soccer fan, and I was looking for a sports bar or restaurant where the beautiful game is served to enthusiastic cheering fans. But, I too watched Spain win while shouting at the television in my house and dancing about to celebrate. I still remember the delightful joy of watching World Cup 2006 early matches in cafes and celebrating in the squares while I was in Europe. Oh well, it is nice to hear of another Olympia fan! That’s great! We cheered Spain to victory today, too. My son refused to support them, however, as they don’t have any Manchester United players in their squad. Fortunately Torres (from my beloved Liverpool) scored the match winner, as you know.
Speaking of local sports bars, during the Champion’s League I would go to Pints and Quarts in the mall on Tuesday and Wednesday’s at lunch time and they would turn it to ESPN for me to watch. Often I was the only one in there cheering. They sooned learned to recognize me and were very accomodating. I didn’t go during the Euro’s but I will be back in the fall. If you know of any others, let me know!

I didn’t go to WSU, so I am not that Matthew Edwards. Are you sure you aren’t me posting to your/my own blog? Perhaps you are my doppleganger, in which case we can never run into each other. Cheers.
